- Trinity's men's and women's track & field teams
continued to show improvement at a pair of last chance meets this
week, competing at the ACU Oliver Jackson Twilight and the Dr.
Keeler Invitational.
Each of the Tiger student-athletes are competing for a spot at
the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held May 23-25
in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. The national meet is hosted by the
University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse.
George Warren posted his best collegiate mark in the high jump
earlier this week at the ACU Twilight, reaching 2.04 meters to move
into the top 15 in Division III this season. His previous
season best of 2.00 meters came just a few days ago at the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
At the Dr. Keeler Invitational, which is hosted by North Central
College, Maddie Murphy moved into the top 25 in the nation with her
time of 36:37 in the 10,000 meter run. Murphy's time is also
a new personal record. Rosemary Steup, who won the 10K at the
SCAC Meet, finished in a time of 38:14. That time is just shy
of her season best.
Jessie Dean finished second in the 400 hurdles, crossing the
line at 1:04.15 at the ACU Twilight. Bailey Drury was third
in the 400 meter dash in 59.59 seconds. Sarah Picket posted
her career-best mark in the high jump, reaching 1.57 meters earlier
in the week. Elana Edwards jumped 1.60 meters as well.
Justin Campbell threw 48.97 meters in the discus at Abilene
Christian, and is attempting to return to the NCAA Championships
for the first time since 2009. In 2009, Campbell finished
third in the discus to earn All-American honors as a first-year
student-athlete.
Mariana Sigala and Ian Plantz both competed in the 800 meter
dash. Sigala finished in 2:20 in the race, which is less than
a second from her best-ever time. Plantz finished in 2:05
earlier in the week, and he holds the men's fastest time in the
event this season.
In Friday night's action at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, Sal
Perdomo finished the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:52.36.
Perdomo reached 11th in the nation with his performance at
the Mt. SAC Relays last month.
Several more Trinity student-athletes will compete at the
University of Incarnate Word Last Chance Invitational on Sunday,
May 12.
