San Antonio - Trinity finished off its
annual Quad Tournament on Saturday, with Pablo Diaz Boom
highlighting the day by winning the Flight 4 Singles title.
Boom defeated Luke Trautman of the University of the Incarnate
Word 6-0, 6-3 to claim the top spot.
The two day event pitted teams from Trinity, UIW, Laredo
Community College, St. Edward's University, and St.
Mary's University in flighted singles and doubles
competition.
Chas Mayer advanced to the Flight 2 Singles final, and fell 6-4,
6-1 to Hector Ramirez of Laredo Community College. Ilian Logan lost
a hard-fought Flight 7 final to Mateo Martinez of St. Mary's
6-7, 6-1, 10-6. Logan and Roland Green advanced to the Flight 4
Doubles Championship, falling 8-5 to Martinez and Luke Keller of
St. Mary's.
The third-place match of Flight 1 Singles was an all Trinity
match-up. Paxton Deuel beat teammate Greg Haugen 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.
for the slot. Connor Dunn took third in Flight 2, and Brandon
Thompson was a third-place finisher in Flight 5.
Haugen and Dunn won third place in Flight 1 Doubles, beating
teammates Deuel and Aaron Skinner 8-4. The battle for Flight 3
Doubles third place also consisted of Trinity players. Thompson and
Eliot Guin beat Manuel Brown and Greg Marifian 9-7.
Marifian was a fifth-place finisher in Flight 5 Singles. The
Flight 6 Singles fifth-place position went to Brown, who defeated
Green 4-6, 6-4, 12-10. Seventh place in Flight 2 Doubles was taken
by Charlie Curtis and Clayton Niess who beat teammates Boom and
Julio Benavides by a final of 8-1.
Trinity will host the ITA Southwest Region Men's
Championships Sept. 27-29.
