San Antonio - The third-ranked Trinity
women's soccer team concluded its regular season campaign
with a 6-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference shutout over
Southwestern University on Friday night.
Trinity earned its 17th consecutive victory that ended the
conference season with an unblemished 12-0-0 record. The
Tigers are also 18-0-1 overall, and had already clinched the SCAC
regular season championship and the top seed at the conference
tournament. Trinity will host the tournament November 7-9.
The game also marked the final regular-season contest
for seven Tiger seniors. All seven factored into tonight's
shutout win.
Hannah Kuhl netted the game-winner in the eighth
minute, while All-Americans Emily Jorgens and Kelsey Falcone both
scored goals and assists. Goalkeepers Devan Osegueda and
Lauren Goldberg combined for the clean sheet, while Shelby Hopkins
and Kirby Peddicord led a defense that held Southwestern without a
shot in the game.
Maggie Olvera added a pair of assists in the game,
starting with Kuhl's game-winning goal. Jorgens scored on an
assist from Falcone midway through the first period, then Jorgens
and Olvera both assisted a goal from Colleen Markey just a few
minutes later to make it 3-0 at the half.
Julia Camp scored a solo goal early in the second
half, followed quickly by a goal by Falcone on another assist to
Jorgens. Just minutes later, Markey added her second goal on
an assist from Camp, and the scoring was wrapped up for the
night.
Jorgens now has 18 goals and 24 assists on the season,
which add up to 60 total points. She is the only player to
have scored 60 or more points in a season - a feat she has now
accomplished two straight years. Jorgens also ties Trinity's
career record for goals scored (58), and already holds career marks
for assists (85) and total points (201).
Falcone has tallied 44 total points with 15 goals and
14 assists this season. She is just the second player in
Trinity and SCAC history (joining Jorgens) to pile up 40 goals and
40 assists in a career. Falcone needs just one more goal to
become the sixth Tiger player ever to score 50 or more goals in a
career.
Trinity will next see the field during the SCAC
Tournament. Following a first-round bye, the Tigers will play
at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8. The SCAC Championship
match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
