San Antonio - Trinity senior Greg Haugen
has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's
Tennis Player of the Week, after leading the team to a third-place
finish at the ITA Indoor Championships last weekend.
Haugen sparked the Tigers to a third-place
finish last weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
National Indoor Championships near Cleveland, Ohio. The
fifth-seeded Tigers (8-3) took out No. 4 California Lutheran
University 7-2 in the quarterfinals, lost 3-6 to top
seeded Washington University-St. Louis in the semifinals, and
bounced back to defeat host Case Western Reserve University (seeded
seventh) 7-2 in the third-place match.
In the course of the tournament, Haugen went 2-1
at No. 3 singles, and was undefeated at 3-0 in No. 2 doubles.
Haugen earned singles victories over California Lutheran and Case
Western, while falling to Washington-St. Louis.
Haugen stands at 7-3 in singles this season, and
is 6-2 in doubles competition.
Trinity, ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III,
travels to Austin, Texas, Friday, to play St. Edward's
University, ranked No. 24 in Division II. The dual match begins at
3:00 p.m.
