Jekyll Island, Georgia - The
15th-ranked Trinity Tigers women shot a second-round 319 Saturday
and remains in eighth place at the prestigious Jekyll Island
Women's Collegiate Invitational.
Trinity, which improved its cumulative score by
15 strokes over Friday's opening round, has a 653 total at
the Indian Mound Course. The Tigers are one stroke behind
seventh-place Olivet College, and two in back of No. 2 Southwestern
University.
The University of Texas-Tyler, the 2013 NCAA
Division III runner-up, leads the 20-team field at 629. Rhodes
College is in second place with a 633, and the national champion
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (637) stands at No. 3.
Trinity's nearest competitor is ninth-place Oglethorpe
University with a score of 668. Illinois Wesleyan University and
Huntingdon College (672) are tied for 10th place.
All five of Trinity's golfers registered
improved scores in the second round.
Hanna Niner shot a 5-over-par 77 (155 total) and
remained in a tie for fourth place among some 120 golfers. Brigette
Lee also posted a 77, seven strokes better than the first round,
for a 161 total. Lee is in a tie for 20th place. Christine Campbell
shot 82 (165) and moved up from a tie for 40th to a tie for the No.
37 slot. Alessa Hutter now is tied for 65th place (up from No. 72),
after her six-stroke improvement of 83 (172 total). Madeline Moran
bettered her score by eight strokes, at 87, and is in a tie for
88th place.
The tournament concludes Sunday.
