student-athletes won their events to lead the men's and women's
track & field teams at the Tiger Relays, held at the Trinity
University Track and Field Stadium.
Four Trinity track and field athletes won their
events Friday at the Tiger Relays, held at the Trinity University
Track and Field Stadium.
Leading the way was Taylor Piske, who won the
men's 10,000-meter race with a time of 31:55. Piske recorded
the second-all-time mark in the Trinity record books, and also set
a stadium record. Gerardo Hernandez was runner-up, with a 32:17
time, the third-best time at Trinity.
George Warren captured the men's high jump
competition, with a jump of 2.00 meters.
Vanessa Moreno emerged as the champion of the
women's 1,500 meters, clocking in at 4:44. Moreno beat
her closest opponent by 12 seconds. Autumn Kervella finished fifth,
with a time of 5:03.74.
Sarah Pickett made it a Trinity sweep of the
high jump event, taking first place at 1.58 meters.
The men's relay teams exhibited
season-best times during their events. The fifth-place 4x400-meter
relay unit of Warren, Will Paulus, Mike McIntosh, and Ian Plantz
registered a time of 3:25.88. McIntosh, Adam Saunders, Cody
Wolfe, and Darian Sommers finished third in the 4x100-meter relay
at 43.05 seconds.
The Tiger women's 4x400-meter relay team
also had a season-best time of 4:04.29, while finishing in fourth
place. Team members were Bailey Drury, Salome Wilfred, Jessie Dean,
and Mariana Sigala.
Sigala placed third in the 800 meters (2:21.99).
Drury recorded season-best times in the 200 meters (26.12 seconds,
10th place), and the 400 meters (59.26 seconds, sixth place).
Wilfred finished fourth in the long jump, with a leap of 5.33
meters, and 10th in the 100 meters (13.04 seconds). Rebecca Earle
recorded a personal-best time of 13.41 seconds in the 100,
with a 12th-place finish.
Paulus had a season-best time of 50.01 seconds
(fifth place) in the men's 400 meters. Ian Plantz was a
fifth-place finisher in the 800 meters (1:58.32), while Wolfe came
in at No. 7 in the 200 meters (22.86 seconds).
The Tigers will compete April 4-5 at the Skecher's Carl
Kight Invitational at Nacogdoches, Texas. Trinity's teams
will return home as they host the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Championships April 25-26.
