San Antonio - The seventh-ranked Tiger
men's tennis team closed out its regular-season home schedule
with 9-0 shutout victories over the University of Texas-Dallas and
Colorado College on Saturday.
Trinity (20-6) has now won six consecutive matches,
and posted five shutouts following the wins at the Butch Newman
Tennis Center. The Tigers did not drop a set during the two
matchups.
Seniors Greg Haugen and Nico Moreno were honored
prior to the start of the matches.
Moreno (11-11) played No. 3 singles against
UT-Dallas, and recorded the first clinch match of his Trinity
career, while competing on the No. 2 line against Colorado College.
Haugen (15-8) won No. 2 singles in the UT-Dallas match, and
captured No. 1 singles against Colorado College. Haugen and Jordan
Mayer won both No. 2 doubles matches and improved their record to
13-6. Moreno and Paxton Deuel now stand at 14-10 after winning
twice at No. 1 doubles.
Deuel (15-6) took No. 1 singles in the opener
against UT-Dallas. Aaron Skinner (11-11) won the opening No. 4
singles match, and moved to No. 3 against Colorado College. Jordan
Mayer now stands at 18-2 after winning No. 5 singles in the UTD
match, and Charlie Curtis is 11-2 after taking No. 6 singles in the
first match of the day.
Trinity will host the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Championship April 25-27. The defending
champion Tigers will most likely be the No. 1 seed in the
eight-team tournament.
