San Antonio - Three singles players
and three doubles teams of the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference champion Trinity Tigers men's tennis team have
been named to the All-Tournament Team.
All of the listed players went undefeated at the
SCAC Championship tournament hosted by Trinity Friday through
Sunday. The top-seeded Tigers (22-6) won their conference-record
19th SCAC Championship, and fifth in a row, along with securing an
automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Regionals. It also marked
the fifth consecutive title for Head Coach Russell
McMindes.
Trinity defeated Schreiner University and Texas
Lutheran University by scores of 5-0 win the championship at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center. Each match was played to
decision.
Nico Moreno (2-0) made the No. 2 singles
position of the All-Tournament Team, Aaron Skinner (1-0) was
selected for the No. 3 line, and Jordan Mayer (1-0) was the Tigers
representative at No. 4 singles.
Moreno and Paxton Deuel played No. 1 doubles,
Mayer and Greg Haugen competed at the No. 2 line, and Charlie
Curtis and Clayton Niess were at No. 3 doubles. Each doubles team
recorded a 2-0 record.
Seventh-ranked Trinity will receive an NCAA bid
on May 5.
