Tyler, Texas - The Trinity
Tigers men swept the “A” singles and doubles titles at
the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships at
the University of Texas-Tyler on Monday.
Junior Adam Krull, the tournament's No. 2
singles seed, beat eighth-seeded Casjen Rico of McMurry University
6-2, 6-2 in the final. In the doubles championship, involving only
Trinity players, the No. 4 team of seniors Jordan Mayer and Aaron
Skinner outfought the second-seeded tandem of Paxton Deuel and
Krull 3-6, 6-2, 14-12 to claim the title.
Krull, who transferred from Xavier University,
earned the right to compete in the USTA/ITA National Small College
Championships October 9-12 at Sumter, South Carolina. Mayer and
Skinner will represent Trinity in the doubles event.
In Monday's singles semifinals, Krull beat
Skinner, the 2012 Regional and National Small College champion, by
a score of 6-2, 6-3. Rico beat defending champion Deuel also
by a 6-2, 6-3 mark.
Joining their male counterparts at the National
Small College Championships will be Tiger sophomore Liza Southwick
and first-year player Marie Lutz, who won the Regional
women's doubles crown September 21 at the Butch Newman Tennis
Center.
