San Antonio - Trinity Tiger
junior Adam Krull has been selected as the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Krull sparked the third-ranked Tigers to a 2-1
record to start off the 2015 season. Last week, Trinity's
men's team traveled to Abilene, Texas, and began the trip
with a 9-0 shutout of NCAA Division III opponent Hardin-Simmons
University. The team then competed at the ACU Indoors at Abilene
Christian University. Tyler Junior College, ranked third in the
National Junior College Athletic Association, beat the Tigers 6-1
(playing by Division I rules). However, the
resilient Trinity team bounced back and beat Division I
Abilene Christian 4-3 in the weekend finale.
Krull posted a 2-1 singles record and 3-0
doubles mark over the three matches. He picked up straight-set
victories over Hardin-Simmons and Abilene Christian in the No. 1
singles position. On the No. 2 doubles line, Krull and Clayton
Niess swept all three of their matchups, including wins over Tyler
Junior College and Abilene Christian.
Krull transferred from Xavier University and is
playing in his first season with the Tigers. Last fall, Krull won
the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Singles
Championship and advanced to the National Small College
Championships.
Trinity opens its home season Thursday by
hosting St. Edward's University, ranked No. 23 in Division
II, at 4:00 p.m. at the Butch Newman Tennis Center. The Tigers take
on Laredo Community College, ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA, at 3:30
p.m. Saturday.
