Box Score San Antonio - Tiger track and field
student-athletes turned in top-notch performances at the Trinity
Open on Saturday, beginning the 2015 outdoor season.
Both the Trinity men's and women's teams earned
wins in five events, while several other Tiger individuals had
solid times and marks.
Britney Sullivan scored a win in the triple jump
with a leap of 11.40 meters, which was just shy of the school
record. Erika Hochstein was third in the triple jump, while
Sullivan also finished third in the long jump.
Heather Hayes won the high jump with her mark of 1.50
meters, while Sarah Pickett was just behind her in third place.
Taylor Gloor reached 2.75 meters to emerge as the winner in
the pole vault.
With her time of 25.75 seconds, Nkolika Nweke won the
200 meter dash, followed closely by teammates Bailey Drury in
second, and Elizabeth Peters in fourth. Nweke was second in
the 100 meter dash, and Peters was once again fourth in the sprint
race. Mariana Sigala nabbed the title in the 800 meter run,
while Natalie Belew, Genevieve Primeau, and Haley McFadden were
fifth through seventh in the 1,500 meter run. The
women's 4x100-meter relay team of Nweke, Peters, Drury, and
Katie Groke was runner-up, clocking in at 49.05 seconds.
On the men's side, Eric Booker posted a winning time
of 21.95 seconds in the 200 meter dash, while Kirk Gulliver's
2:03.79 time was the day's best in the 800 meters. Cody Hall
was the 400 meter hurdles champ, finishing in 59.06 seconds, while
Louie Montoto took the high jump title with his mark of 1.85
meters. Matt Love was the winner of the discus with his throw
of 42.55 meters.
The second-place 4x100-meter relay unit of Adam
Saunders, Cody Wolfe, Eric Soo, and Hall ran the event in 43.90
seconds. Anthony Sanchez, Eric Booker, Darian Sommers, and Mike
McIntosh were third-place finishers. Michael Erickson was runner-up
in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Daniel Henkes placed
fourth.
In the 100 meter dash, Wolfe took third place with a
time of 11.25 seconds, while Saunders came in fifth overlal.
Austin Brown and Taylor Piske were third and fourth,
respectively, in the 1,500 meter run.
David Stroud's 6.37 meter distance in the long jump
was good for second place, while Lars Besselaar was also second in
the pole vault. Christopher Hoffman placed third in the pole
vault, tying Besselaar with a successful height of 3.65 meters.
The Tigers will compete March 5 at the Tarleton
State Invitational at Stephenville, Texas. Trinity will host two
more meets this season: the Trinity Invitational (March 27), and
the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships (April
24-25).
