Box Score Corpus Christi, Texas - Members of the Trinity Tigers men's and women's track and field teams more than held their own Saturday at the Islanders Open.
The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi meet was packed with members of the NCAA Divisions I, II and III.
Heading the list in the men's events was Cody Hall, who placed second in the 110-meter hurdles. His time of 15.01 seconds is currently the best in Division III. Matt Love finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 44.61 meters. Love's performance was the fourth-best in Trinity history, and is fourth in the NCAA.
Mariana Sigala finished second in the women's 800 meters, clocking in at 2:20.53. Sigala stands at No. 6 in the nation. Sarah Pickett registered a leap of 1.57 meters in the high jump to finish fifth in the event. Pickett is also ranked sixth in Division III. Katie Groke ran the 400 hurdles in 1:07.80 and crossed the finish line in third place. It is the sixth all-time Tigers mark, and is 11th in DIII.
Louie Montoto was second in the men's high jump, and seventh in the long jump. Ian Plantz came in at No. 6 in the 800 meters, and Kirk Gulliver placed ninth in the 800 meters. Two of the Tiger men also had personal bests, with Stephen Mason in the shot put, and Lars Besselaar in the pole vault.
Faith Deckard posted personal bests in the women's shot put and discus, as did Becca Earle in the shot put.
The Tigers will compete March 21 at the UIW (University of the Incarnate Word) Quadrangular in San Antonio. The Trinity University Invitational is slated for March 27 on campus.
