Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Tiger men's and women's track & field teams set school records and placed high on national lists at Friday's Trinity Invitational meet.
The competition was stiff at the Trinity University Track & Field Stadium, which included athletes from all NCAA Divisions and the NAIA. But, the Tigers still managed to make their marks in several of the competitions. Trinity's women won the Division III team competition with 165 points. The Tiger men placed second in DIII events with 90 points.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team finished with a school-record 41.95 seconds. The team of Adam Saunders, Eric Booker, Cody Wolfe, and Eric Soo is now ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division III.
Britney Sullivan emerged as the women's triple jump champion, with a leap of 11.80 meters. Sullivan set a Tiger record, and her mark is third in the nation. This marks the second straight meet that she has broken the record, including her own previous best of 11.48 meters just last weekend.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team also took first place, set a Trinity record, and gained a ranking of fourth nationally. Nkolika Nweke, Elizabeth Peters, Bailey Drury, and Katie Groke ran the event in 48.42 seconds. Nweke also won the 100 meters in 12.39 seconds, tying the school record. Her time is also tied for No. 8 in the nation. Drury also captured first place in the 200 (26.13 seconds).
Sarah Pickett won the high jump, Natalie Belew took the 10k, and Mariana Sigala was the champion of the 800. Michael Erickson won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:50.40), and Ryan Hernandez took the 10k (35:52.51).
The Tigers head to Claremont, California, next Saturday for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
