Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers track and field teams took on competitors from all NCAA Divisions Friday and Saturday, and more than held their own at the UIW Cardinal Invitational.
Nkolika Nweke broke her own school record in the women's 100 meters, clocking in at 12.27 seconds for a 10th-place finish at the University of the Incarnate Word. Nweke set the record last week at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at Claremont, California.
Another Tiger record was broken, in the women's 4x100 relay. The team of Nweke, Elizabeth Peters, Bailey Drury, and Britney Sullivan crossed the finish line in 48.01 seconds, placing second in the event. Sullivan also was runner-up in the triple jump (11.44 meters), and placed third in the long jump (5.44 meters).
Sarah Pickett recorded a mark of 1.62 meters in the women's high jump, and claimed third place. Michelle Oberndorf and Genevieve Primeau placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Oberndorf posted a time of 18:57.08, and Primeau was just two seconds behind. Katie Groke ran the 400 hurdles in 1:06.35 and finished in fourth place.
Taylor Piske was runner-up in the men's 5,000 meters (15:17.32), a half-second behind the winner. Austin Brown placed fifth at 15:54.97. Michael Erickson was the sixth-place finisher in the 1,500 meters (4:02.55). Louie Montoto turned in a fifth-place performance in the high jump, at 1.85 meters. Matt Love threw the discus 47.16 meters and came in at No. 4.
Trinity will host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships April 24-25. The Tiger men won the 2014 event, and Trinity's women finished second.
