Box Score San Antonio - Trinity Tigers Nkolika Nweke and Matt Love have earned the top weekly track and field honors from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Nweke was named the SCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time, while Love garnered Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolades. The first-year student-athletes turned in conference-leading performances April 11 at the UIW Cardinal Invitational in San Antonio. The meet, hosted by the University of the Incarnate Word, consisted of competitors from all NCAA Divisions.
Nweke broke her own school record in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line in 12.27 seconds for 10th place. The time is ranked 20th nationally in Division III. Additionally, Nweke and teammates Elizabeth Peters, Bailey Drury, and Britney Sullivan placed second in the 4x100 relay, for a Trinity-record time of 48.01 seconds. The Trinity quartet is ranked 11th on the national list.
Matt Love came in at No. 4 in the discus with his mark of 47.16 meters, ranked 20th on DIII performance standings. Love's distance was his personal best, and third-longest in Trinity history.
Trinity will host the SCAC Championships April 24-25. The Tiger men are defending conference champions, while Trinity's women were runners-up last year.
