Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity men's and women's track & field teams both captured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.
Trinity's men won 12 individual titles and tallied 269 points, leading second-place Texas Lutheran by 78 points at the two-day meet. It marked Trinity's third SCAC title in a row, and the 10th overall. The Tiger women rallied late in the meet and scored 248 points, edging runner-up Texas Lutheran by a 13-point margin. Last year, the Bulldogs won the championship by 26 points over the defending champion Tigers. At this year's meet, the Tiger women won 11 titles and their 10th overall team championship.
Bailey Drury earned SCAC Female Athlete of the Meet accolades, by scoring a championship-high 29 points. On Saturday's final day of competition, Drury won the 400 meters (58.51 seconds), and was part of the champion 4x100-meter relay team (48.51 seconds). Her teammates were Elizabeth Peters, Nkolika Nweke, and Britney Sullivan. She also teamed up to win the 4x400-meter relay (4:01.63), along with Katie Groke, Julia Camp, and Mariana Sigala. Bailey was runner-up in the 200 meters (26.14 seconds), and finished third in the 100 meters (12.79 seconds).
Sullivan also won the long jump (5.46 meters) on Saturday, and the triple jump on Friday. Sigala won two individual events, the 800 meters (2:20.49) and the 1,500 (5:01.40). Nweke was a two-time individual winner as well, in the 100 (12.21 seconds) and the 200 (25.77 seconds). Michelle Oberndorf captured the 3,000 steeplechase on the opening day, and placed third in the 5,000 (19:33.01) Saturday. Sarah Pickett registered a mark of 1.65 meters to win the high jump title. Groke placed second in the 400 (59.37 seconds) and the 400 hurdles (1:05.41) on the final day. Abigail Sheppard finished second in the 100 hurdles (15.64 seconds).
Miro Ronac Giannone was the second-highest men's points winner, with 24.50 to his credit. Ronac Giannone won the javelin (47.25 meters) and ran the anchor post in the champion 4x400 relay team (3:22.10). Joining Ronac Giannone on the winner's platform were Mike McIntosh, Ian Plantz, and Eric Soo. Louie Montoto captured the high jump (2.00 meters) and was third in the long jump (6.28 meters).
Austin Brown was the 1,500 champion (4:04.98), and Plantz won the 800 (1:56.78). Eric Booker took the 100 (10.95 seconds). Matt Love won the discus (44.15 meters), and Darian Sommers was the 400 hurdles champ (58.02 seconds). Sommers was second in the 110 hurdles (16.09 seconds). Taylor Piske won Saturday's 5,000 (15:42.98), and the 10,000 on Friday. Vincent Omegba won Friday's triple jump, and Michael Erickson took the 3,000 steeplechase.
David Stroud placed second in the high jump (1.77 meters), Cody Wolfe was runner-up in 200 (22.22 seconds), and McIntosh was No. 2 in the 400 (50.15 seconds). Adam Saunders came in third in the 200 (22.35 seconds) and 100 (110.97 seconds). Alexander Milbert was a third-place finisher in the javelin (37.52 meters).
The Tigers will compete May 1 at the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational May 1 in San Antonio.
