Box Score San Antonio - Trinity junior Mariana Sigala has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Sigala made a number of contributions to the Tiger women's team's strong showing last weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, California.
In a meet consisting of athletes from all of the NCAA Divisions, Sigala placed 15th overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.98. The mark was less than one second from her personal-best time, and was the fourth fastest among Division III competitors in the event. It also was one of the top performances in Trinity track & field history.
Sigala was part of Trinity's fifth-place 4x400-meter relay team which crossed the finish line in 4:03.55. The time is ranked sixth-fastest in the Tiger record books.
The Tiger men's and women's teams will compete Friday and Saturday at the UIW Invitational, at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Trinity will host the SCAC Championships April 24-25.
