Sullivan to Compete in Saturday's Triple Jump Event at NCAA Championships

Box Score

San Antonio - Trinity first-year student-athlete Britney Sullivan will compete in the women's triple jump event at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

The triple jump competition is scheduled to get under way at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Merrick-Pinkard Track and Field Complex. Twenty-two competitors qualified for the national triple jump championship field, and nine will advance to the finals. Sullivan holds a No. 17 national ranking in the triple jump, at 11.80 meters. That mark was recorded on March 27 at the Trinity Invitational. She also jumped 11.69 meters earlier this month at the Hardin-Simmons Twilight Invitational at Abilene, Texas.

Sullivan became the first Tiger first-year to secure a berth in the NCAA Championships since Justin Campbell qualified in 2009. Campbell went on to earn All-America honors in the men's discus.

During the season, Sullivan broke the Trinity triple jump record on four occasions. She also played a major role in the record-breaking 4x100-meter relay team. At the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships last month, Sullivan won the triple jump, long jump, and ran in the first-place 4x100 relay unit.

The Tiger women's and men's teams are led by Head Coach Marcus Whitehead, who is wrapping up his third year at the helm. Coach Whitehead led the men's and women's teams to the SCAC Championships, in front of a cheering crowd of Tiger fans at the Trinity Track and Field Stadium.
