San Antonio - Aaron Skinner, a recent Trinity graduate and men's tennis All-American, has been elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Man of the Year.

The SCAC Man of the Year award recognizes senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, and service and leadership. Skinner is the third recipient of the honor, which was established prior to the 2012-13 season. He is also the first Tiger student-athlete to garner the accolade. Skinner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Trinity in May.

Skinner attained All-America status from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on two occasions. Earlier this month, Skinner and teammate Jordan Mayer received the honor in doubles for the second time. Last October, the Trinity duo captured the ITA National Small College Doubles Championship, preceded by the Regional Doubles crown. In 2013, Skinner advanced to the NCAA Division III Singles semifinals. The previous fall, Skinner and Mayer combined to bring home the ITA Regional Doubles Championship at the 2012 event.

Skinner was elected the SCAC Player of the Year in 2013, and was named to the All-SCAC team twice, including 2015. He also was a SCAC All-Tournament Team honoree during each year of his collegiate career.

The versatile Skinner also excelled in the classroom. He regularly qualified for Trinity's Dean's List, and the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.  Skinner plans to pursue his PhD in conservation biology.

Sixth-year Head Coach Russell McMindes led his Tiger tennis team to its sixth consecutive SCAC Championship. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the third straight time. Trinity completed the season ranked eighth in the nation, with a 19-9 overall record. Against Division III opponents, the Tigers sported a 15-3 mark.
