San Antonio - Tiger tennis players chalked up three first-place finishes Saturday in the Trinity Invitational.
Junior Chas Mayer took the title in Flight 2 singles, and later won Flight 1 Doubles with senior Eliot Guin. It was an all Trinity final as Mayer and Guin beat senior Paxton Deuel and junior Clayton Niess to claim first place. Sophomores Kevin Lee and Clark Rivers emerged as the champions of Flight 3 Doubles, beating Trinity first-year player Tilden Oliver and Nick Lay of the University of the Incarnate Word.
Deuel was the runner-up in Flight 1 Singles, Lee finished second in Flight 3, and Oliver reached the finals of Flight 6. Guin took third place in Flight 3 Singles. Newcomers Wilson Lambeth and Cameron Bilsbarrow finished third in Flight 2 Doubles.
Trinity will host the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Men's Championships September 24-27. The singles and doubles winners advance to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships October 15-18 at Sumter, South Carolina. Last year, Adam Krull, now a Tiger senior, won the Regional singles crown and advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament.
