Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Open track & field meet on Saturday was a massive affair, which boasted over 700 college and post-college athletes.
Trinity's student-athletes more than distinguished themselves on their home track, the Trinity University Track & Field Stadium. Among the schools participating were every Division III team in the state of Texas, with the exception of UT-Tyler. A number of scholarship schools also were in the mix.
Molly McCullough captured the women's 3,000--meter steeplechase. Emma MacEachern placed fourth in the 5,000 meters, and recorded a personal-best time of 18:33.94. Austin Brown posted his all-time best mark in the men's 5k, clocking in at 15:31.95. Taylor Piske won the 10,000 meters. Cody Hall was the champion of the 400-meter hurdles (54.73 seconds), and placed fourth in the 110 hurdles (14.86 seconds). Michael Erickson took the 3,000 steeplechase, and Matt Love won the discus, with a throw of 46.89 meters.
"We had a really good day," revealed Head Coach Marcus Whitehead. "It was a long day, but our student-athletes did great. We had several PR's across the board, in every event area, and not just on the track, even in the field events too. Emma MacEachern ran well in the 5k, and so did Austin Brown. They both had all-time bests. Cody Hall had his coming out party. He was hurt all last season, and he ran very good times in the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles. Those are going to be some of the top times in our school history. We had a lot of strong performances. There were all Division III schools in the state of Texas, outside of UT-Tyler. We also had some victories today, which was a lot of fun."
The Tigers will compete in the Texas Lutheran Invitational next Saturday in Seguin, Texas.
