Women's Track & Field Competes in Tri-Meet With Tufts and St. Benedict

Box Score

San Antonio - The Trinity women's track & field team turned in superb performances in a tri-meet with the College of St. Benedict (MN), and Tufts (MA) University on Wednesday.

"First, I want to thank St. Benedict and Tufts for coming down and doing this meet with us," said Head Coach Marcus Whitehead. "I know our women's program really appreciated it, and they pushed us to several season bests for the year. It was fun to watch the team compete today in a meet where all the events were really competitive and well-balanced. A mid-week meet is a change of pace for us, but I thought our women were prepared for it.  I thought Britney, Bailey and Katie were all highlights today with big victories in their events.  We had several other girls with season and personal bests - really too many to mention.  We hope to continue to do some smaller invite meets with quality Division III programs like St. Benedict and Tufts."

Facing tough competition by talented athletes from the two NCAA Division III schools, the Tigers brought home five first-place finishes on the day. Britney Sullivan won the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.58 meters. She also won the long jump, at 5.48 meters. Bailey Drury emerged as the winner of the 200 meters, at 25.80 seconds, and the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 58.46 seconds. Katie Groke was the 400-meter hurdles champ, clocking in at 1:05.39.

Mariana Sigala was runner-up in the 800 meters, registering a time of 2:19.42. The 4x400-meter relay team of Drury, Groke, Erika Hochstein, and Julia Camp placed second at 4:05.10. Nkolika Nweke was a third-place finisher in the 100 meters (12.91 seconds), while Abigail Schneebeck was third in the 100-meter hurdles, at 16.03 seconds.

Heather Hayes finished in a three-way tie for second place in the high jump, at 1.50 meters. Third-place field events finishes were posted by Mia Loseff in the long jump (4.82 meters), Stella Affognon in the shot put (9.63 meters), Natalie Perez  in the discus throw (30.19 meters), and Rebecca Earle in the javelin throw (25.66 meters).

Trinity's men's and women's teams will compete at two meets on Friday. The Tigers will be represented at the Victor Lopez Classic in Houston, Texas; and at the McMurry War Hawk Classic in Abilene, Texas.
