Box Score San Antonio - Trinity sophomore Britney Sullivan has received a bid to compete in the women's triple jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 11-12 at Grinnell College.
Sullivan is ranked 10th in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.71 meters. She produced that outstanding performance at the Houston Invitational & Multis in January at Houston, Texas. Last year, Sullivan qualified in the triple jump for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Canton, New York. She posted a mark of 11.18 meters, and finished in 19th place.
“Britney is only a sophomore, and this is her second trip to Nationals,” Head Track & Field Coach Marcus Whitehead said. “She has put in a great winter of training, and things seem to be clicking. I'm excited to see how it all plays out.”
The talented Sullivan becomes the first Trinity student-athlete to earn a bid to the Indoors since 2010. Todd Wildman, a current Tigers assistant track & field assistant coach, won his second consecutive national pentathlon title at Greencastle, Indiana, that year. Caitlin Masse earned women's All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meters. Trinity's distance medley relay team also finished second at the event, garnering All-America honors for Chass Armstrong, Zach Brush, Brennen Peters, and Bryant Wright.
“It's been a long time since we qualified anyone for Indoor Nationals, so this is a big opportunity for us,” Coach Whitehead continued. “Access to indoor facilities is understandably difficult in South Texas, so, for Britney to qualify in only two Indoor meets, is a huge accomplishment for her. I feel like the next step for this program is start getting large groups into, not only Outdoor Nationals, but Indoors as well.”
