Tigers Finish Home Schedule With Standout Performances at Trinity Invitational

Box Score

San Antonio - The Trinity men's and women's track & field teams exhibited superb performances before their fans at the Trinity Tiger Invitational on Friday.

We had an amazing day today considering the strange weather," Head Coach Marcus Whitehead said after the long day. "We had some marks that will rank in the top five in the nation for Division III.  Britney and Cody had a big day in the jumps, and should be looking at top rankings. It was really great to see some of our seniors like Mariana, Bailey, and Becca Earle have a good day and win some races as this was the last time they will get to race on this track. Overall, it was a great day that had a few really surprise performances. There were a lot of fun races today, and I'm excited to see how we progress."

Britney Sullivan emerged as a double winner at today's meet, taking top honors at both the triple jump and the long jump. Natalie Geisler also won the 3,000-meter steeplechase by beating her personal record by more than 25 seconds, and finishing in under 12 minutes. Bailey Drury was the champion in the 400-meters, while Drury, Sullivan, Nkolika Nweke, and Abigail Schneebeck took first in the 4x100-meter relay. Mariana Sigala was tops in the 800 meters, while Nweke was the top collegiate runner in the 100 meters (finishing third overall).

Heather Hayes was runner-up in the women's high jump, while teammate Liz Sanchez placed third. Mia Loseff finished second in the pole vault, and Rebecca Earle came in second in the javelin. Lexi Phelps was a third-place finisher in the 5,000 meters, while Katie Groke and Schneebeck were the second and third-place runners in the 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

The Tiger men took the top five spots in the 5,000 meters, led by Austin Brown, Michael Erickson, and Oliver Langselius. Cody Hall won the men's 400-meter hurdles, and was also the runner-up in the long jump. Eric Booker took the 100 meters, as well as placing third in the 200 meters. Joseph Thomas was the top high jumper at the meet, while Matt Love won the discus throw. Hall, Booker, Adam Saunders, and Makai Green were the number one men's 4x100-meter relay team. Benjamin Creasy finished third in the men's 1,500 meters, and Miro Ronac Giannone was a second-place finisher in the javelin throw.

The Tigers will compete in two different meets next weekend. Some Trinity student-athletes will compete in the UIW Invitational next Friday and Saturday, on the San Antonio campus of the University of the Incarnate Word. Others will head to Claremont, California, for Saturday's Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
