Austin, Texas - The 12th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team shut out Concordia (TX) University 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers now stand at 13-9 overall, and are 11-5 against NCAA Division III opponents. The match was the second consecutive shutout victory for Trinity, as well as the fifth of the season. Concordia dropped to 6-10 after the loss.
"The guys did a nice job - with a quick travel and unpredictable conditions - of staying focused, and really just playing efficiently," said Head Coach Russell McMindes. "It was a nice team win, and a good confidence builder."
Paxton Deuel and Matt Tyer won No. 1 doubles, and remained undefeated as a team at 4-0. Chas Mayer and Wilson Lambeth took the No. 2 line, and are now 4-2 on the season. Clark Rivers and Cameron Bilsbarrow won the third match of doubles.
Deuel won a first-set tiebreaker at No.1 singles, and closed out the match in the second set. He now is sporting a 10-5 singles record. Mayer took No. 2 singles, for his sixth straight win, and a 12-4 overall mark. Lambeth, Tyer, Rivers, and Bilsbarrow were straight-sets winners at Nos. 3-6 singles.
