#12 Tigers Blank Mary Hardin-Baylor to Finish Saturday Action

San Antonio - The 12th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team wrapped up a long day with a 9-0 shutout of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday night.

Earlier in the day, the Tigers lost a tightly played 6-3 match to #13 Washington University in St. Louis (MO). Trinity now stands at 12-9 overall, and is 10-5 against NCAA Division III teams. The Crusaders dropped to 3-6 after the loss.

"Obviously, playing a doubleheader is a little tricky, a little challenging," said Head Coach Russell McMindes. "Ultimately, it was a nice match for us to work on some new doubles teams. It was nice to be able to get those guys back on the court, and continue to develop some chemistry with the new pairings. It was really nice for the singles to be able to get some of our guys who don't get to play a lot of matches some court time, some experience, which is ultimately valuable down the stretch. To get some of our guys some confidence, and some wins that they need. They can hopefully build on that for the next round of matches."

Paxton Deuel and Matt Tyer won No. 1 doubles for their second victory of the day. Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess took No. 2 doubles against The Cru, and Wilson Lambeth and Eliot Guin won the No. 3 line.

Lambeth had the duty at No. 1 singles against Mary Hardin-Baylor, and won 10-8 in a tiebreaker played instead of a third set. The rest of the matches were won by the Tigers in straight sets. Guin took over No. 2 singles, Kevin Lee competed on the third line, and Tilden Oliver played the fourth match. Austin Crist represented the Tigers at No. 5 singles, and Clark Rivers won on the No. 6 line.

Trinity's next match is scheduled for Friday, April 15, as the Tigers host the #29 University of Texas-Tyler at 3:00 p.m.
