Track & Field Teams Earn High Marks at UIW and Pomona Meets

Box Score

Claremont, California/San Antonio - The Trinity men's and women's track & field teams competed at the University of Incarnate Word Invitational and the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in two different states over the past two days.

A number of Tiger student-athletes excelled at the Pomona-Pitzer Track & Field Invitational in California. Other Trinity team members stayed close to home, and made their marks at the UIW Invitational, on the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.

"We had a really solid meet out here in California," said Head Coach Marcus Whitehead. "It was wet, cold, and rainy, but I think our distance runners took advantage of the cooler temperatures. They ran really great. Overall, we were really competitive in all of our heats. I think it was a real good tune-up for conference. We also had a good meet at Incarnate Word. Matt Love won the discus, and some of our women did well in the 5k."

In California, Britney Sullivan placed fourth in the women's triple jump, and was seventh in the long jump. Sullivan and her teammates finished eighth in the 4x100-meter relay. Natalie Geisler ran the 5,000 meters for a 10th-place finish. She also placed 37th in the 1,500 meters. Mariana Sigala posted a 19th-place finish, and a season-best time of 2:18.28 in the 800 meters. Abigail Schneebeck registered a PR in the 400-meter hurdles, at 67.04 seconds and an 11th-place finish.

Michael Erickson finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Cody Hall placed second in the Pomona-Pitzer men's long jump, third in the 400-meter hurdles, and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Austin Brown crossed the finish line in the 5,000 meters in 15:00.22, for a sixth-place finish.

Matt Love won the UIW men's discus, with a mark of 46.02 meters. Kirk Gulliver ran the 400-meter hurdles for the first time, and clocked in at 1:00.57. Trinity's women's runners in the 5,000 meters finished in 10th through 15th places, led by Anika Jensen at 20:42.54. Samantha Simank finished five seconds behind her teammate.

The Tiger men and women will defend their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships April 22-23 at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.
