San Antonio - Trinity sophomore Wilson Lambeth has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Lambeth chalked up a 2-0 singles record, and a 1-1 doubles mark in two matches in San Antonio for the 14th-ranked Tigers. Trinity started the day with a 7-2 loss to D-II St. Mary's (TX) University at the Butch Newman Tennis Center. The Tigers then headed to nearby University of the Incarnate Word (TX), and shut out the D-I Cardinals 4-0.
Lambeth won #1 singles against St. Mary's by pulling out a 10-7 tiebreaker in place of a full third set. He then won the top singles matchup in straight sets against UIW. Lambeth and Tyer were edged 8-6 in #1 doubles in the match with St. Mary's, but bounced back to defeat the UIW tandem in the day's finale.
This season, Lambeth stands at 4-2 in singles, and holds a 3-3 mark at #1 doubles. Three of Lambeth's four wins have come at #1 singles this year.
The Tigers have amassed a 3-3 overall record in dual matches, and are 2-0 against D-III teams. Trinity will compete Friday through Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men's Tennis Indoor Championship at Cleveland, Ohio. First up for the Tigers will be a Friday matchup with second-ranked Emory (GA) University at 8:00 a.m. ET.
