#14 Trinity Men's Tennis Falls to #2 Emory at ITA Indoors

Cleveland, Ohio The 14th-ranked Tiger men's tennis team opened up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III National Men's Team Indoor Championship with a 7-2 loss against second-ranked Emory (GA) University on Friday.

 

MATCH SUMMARY

Trinity started off strong in doubles, taking two of the three matches to take the early lead against Emory. Emory stormed ahead in singles, though, winning all six lines to earn the overall victory.

Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer took the #1 doubles slot, while Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess nabbed the win at the third line. Jordan Pitts and Liam Crawley were edged 9-8 (7-4) at line two, as the Tigers just missed out on the doubles sweep.

McKenna Fujitani was the lone Trinity player to go to a third set in singles, battling through a 4-6, 6-4, 6-10 defeat from line five. 

Trinity now stand 3-4 on the season, while Emory improves to 3-2.

 

UP NEXT

Trinity moves to the consolation bracket, and plays at 8:00 a.m. ET on Saturday. The Tigers will face the losing team between Carnegie-Mellon (PA) University and Case Western Reserve University, the host of the tournament.
