Trinity Men's Tennis Takes Seventh Place at ITA Indoors

Cleveland, Ohio - The 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team won seventh place Saturday night at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Indoor Championships.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Trinity won seventh place by defeating 11th-ranked Kenyon (OH) College 6-3.

Jordan Pitts and Liam Crawley kicked things off with a win at line two doubles, while Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess took the third. Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer were edged 9-7 in #1 doubles to put the Tigers up 2-1 going into singles play.

Mayer gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead after winning #2 singles, and McKenna Fujitani widened the advantage by taking the fifth line. Kenyon came back as Lambeth lost #1 singles, and Crawley was edged in a three-setter at #4.

Pitts clinched the match for Trinity by winning #3 singles in three sets. Tilden Oliver capped off the night with a victory on the sixth line.

Trinity played an earlier consolation semifinals match against the host Case Western Reserve University and was edged 5-4 by the eighth-ranked Spartans.

The Tigers started off the match with a 2-1 lead after doubles. Lambeth and Tyer won the #1 match 9-8 (7-1), and Mayer and Niess captured the third line. Pitts and Crawley came up just shy at #2, falling 9-8 (7-4).

In singles play, Mayer punched in the first win, coming out on top in the #2 matchup. Crawley lost the fourth line, but Pitts put the Tigers head 4-2 with a win at line #3. 

Case Western started their comeback by capturing #5 singles as Fujitani lost in three sets. The match was all-squared at 4-4, but Lambeth lost a three-set #1 singles pairing. The Spartans clinched the dual match as Tyer fell at the #6 slot.

NOTABLES

The Tigers stand at 4-5 and are 3-2 against Division III opponents.

 

UP NEXT

Trinity will play four matches in Orlando, Florida from March 12-15. First up will be a March 12 rematch with Kenyon.
