Tiger Men's Tennis Splits Saturday Matches in Abilene

Abilene, Texas - The 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team split its matches on Saturday, dropping a 7-0 decision to Division II Abilene Christian (TX) University, then blanking Hardin-Simmons (TX) University 9-0 in the day's finale.

 

MATCH SUMMARIES

In Saturday's second match, played on the outdoor courts of DIII member Hardin-Simmons University, the Tigers blanked the Cowboys 9-0.

Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth took #1 doubles, Liam Crawley and Jordan Pitts won the #2 line, while Cameron Bilsbarrow and McKenna Fujitani prevailed at #3.

The singles matches all went to the Tigers in straight sets. Lambeth was the #1 player, Pitts competed at #2, and Crawley played the third line. Kevin Lee was the fourth-line singles player, Fujitani won at #5, and Tyer took the sixth matchup.

Trinity opened the day indoors at Abilene Christian University, and the Tigers suffered their second straight shutout of the weekend. Crawley and Pitts won a 6-3 decision at line two doubles for the only match win. The singles matches all resulted in straight-sets wins by Abilene Christian. 

 

NOTABLES

Pitts and Crawley had a strong showing all weekend at #2 doubles. In addition to winning both matches on Saturday, the Tiger duo beat the Tyler (TX) Junior College pair on Friday to sport a 3-0 weekend of action. 

Trinity is sporting a 2-2 record after the weekend matches, but the Tigers are 2-0 against Division III opposition.

 

UP NEXT

The Tigers will play a pair of matches in San Antonio on Saturday, February 18. Trinity hosts Division II St. Mary's (TX) University at 11:00 a.m., then travels to nearby Division I University of the Incarnate Word for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
