#16 Men's Tennis Defeats Gustavus and Linfield on Sunday

San Antonio - The 16th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team defeated #19 Gustavus Adolphus (MN) College and Linfield (OR) College in home dual matches Sunday.

MATCH SUMMARIES

Trinity edged Gustavus Adolphus 5-4, and beat Linfield 8-1 later in the day.

The Tigers dropped the first doubles point of the day against Gustavus, but Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess took #2 doubles to even the score in what proved to be a critical victory. The Gusties took line three doubles 9-8 to lead 2-1 heading into singles play.

Trinity quickly tied the match as Wilson Lambeth won #2 singles, then took the lead with Liam Crawley's victory on the fourth line.

With momentum on their side, the Tigers then scored another win from Jordan Pitts at #3 singles, taking a 4-2 lead.  Trinity now needed just one more win to clinch the team victory.

Gustavus won the top-line singles point to draw within one, but McKenna Fujitani clinched the match for Trinity by winning #5 singles 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. The Gusties picked up the final point at #6 singles, but the Tigers were already victorious by then.

Trinity took the first two doubles points of the evening match against Linfield, but the Wildcats won 9-8 (7-5) at line one to avoid the doubles sweep.

That proved to be the only win of the match for Linfield, though, as the Tigers swept through singles with six straight-set victories. Wilson Lambeth's 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles proved to be the clincher.
