Men's Tennis Opens NCAA Playoffs at Claremont This Weekend

San Antonio - The 13th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team opens play next weekend in the NCAA Division III Championship at Claremont, California.

Trinity (16-10) meets #14 Whitman (WA) College in the second round at Claremont McKenna College. Third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges takes on #23 University of Texas-Tyler in the other second-round matchup. The opening rounds are slated for May 12-14, with playing times to be announced.

The third-round winner advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals, to be held May 22 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Semifinals and Championship are scheduled for May 23-24. On Wednesday, the NCAA Singles and Doubles participants will be announced. The individual events are on the docket for May 25-27, also in Chattanooga.

Trinity, led by eighth-year Head Coach Russell McMindes, is competing in its eighth consecutive NCAA Championship. The Tigers earned their 24th berth in the NCAA postseason event by winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Trinity's conference crown was the 22nd for the Tigers, and eighth in a row.

Last year, the Tigers opened their NCAA bid with a victory over Sewanee: The University of the South (TN in Atlanta, Georgia. Host Emory University then claimed a win over Trinity.

The Tigers won the NCAA Championship in 2000, and finished third in 2014.
