Box Score San Antonio - The 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team is seeded #2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship to be held Friday through Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Second-seeded Trinity will now play #7 Centenary (LA) College at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time Friday in the quarterfinals at the U.S. Air Force Academy. The winner advances to the semifinals the next day against either #3 Austin (TX) College or sixth-seeded Texas Lutheran University at 12:30 p.m. at the Air Force Academy. The championship match is slated for 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Air Force.
Southwestern (TX) University is seeded #1 and has a bye to the semifinals. The Pirates will play the winner of #4 Schreiner (TX) University and the fifth-seeded host Colorado College, where all matches were originally to be held.
At stake is an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with invitations to be issued May 7. The first three rounds will be played May 11-13 at campus sites. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship are slated for May 21-23 at Claremont, California. The singles and doubles championships will also be held at Claremont from May 24-26.
Ninth-year Trinity Head Coach Russell McMindes has guided the Tigers to a 12-11 overall record and an 11-8 mark against Division III opponents. Trinity has captured eight SCAC Championships in a row, including the 2017 title won on Trinity's campus. The 5-1 decision over Southwestern last year was the team's 22nd overall SCAC Championship, the most garnered by one squad in any sport in the history of the conference.
