Tiger Track & Field Begins SCAC Championships Meet

Box Score

Seguin, Texas – Trinity's women's track & field team is leading and the men's team is second after the first day of action at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships meet.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Tiger women scored 85 points in the six total events on today's schedule, leading second-place Texas Lutheran University by 35 points.

On the men's side, Trinity is in second with 72 points after Friday's six events, trailing by a scant seven points behind host Texas Lutheran.

Trinity's women won four of the six events and had 10 All-SCAC performances (top three finishers in each event).

The Tiger men won just one event, but had eight competitors earn All-SCAC recognition.

Trinity swept the men's and women's 3,000 meter steeplechase as Molly McCullough and Jacob Hammond earned top honors. McCullough has won the event each of the last three seasons, while Hammond moved up after finishing second each of the past two years.

Allison Hill also earned All-SCAC honors by finishing third in the women's steeplechase, while Michael Erickson was the runner-up to Hammond by less than five seconds. David Buss also finished fifth for the Tiger men's team in the event.

The 10,000 meter run was also a huge success for the Tigers. Haley McFadden led four Trinity women's runners to finish in the top five. McFadden finished second in the event last season and she is now the first Tiger woman to win the event since 2014.

Emma MacEachern and Melissa Whitman were second and third, making it the first time since 2014 that Trinity swept All-SCAC honors in the event. Meghan Mardashti was fifth overall in the 10k race.

On the men's side, Elliot Blake and Brian Wongchotigul earned All-SCAC honors by finishing second and third, while Keaton Holt came in as the fifth-place finisher. The Tiger men have now had at least two of the three top spots in this event every year since 2013.

Britney Sullivan took the women's triple jump title for the third time in four seasons, after finishing second in the event last year. Andy Garza was third to secure All-SCAC recognition. Sullivan's mark of 11.81 meters broke the conference meet record.

Naim Barnett and Cody Hall also nabbed All-SCAC accolades by finishing second and third in the men's triple jump. It marked the first time that Trinity had all-conference honorees in the men's triple jump since taking the top three spots in 2015.

Mia Loseff was the top pole vaulter at the conference meet for the third consecutive year, followed closely by teammates Emma Pool in second and Hannah Whitney in fifth.

The men's pole vault saw Stephen Ford take second for All-SCAC honors, and Ford was also Trinity's top finisher in the hammer throw (eighth place). Hall was third in the pole vault to add another All-SCAC performance to his career, while Raini Huynh finished fourth for the Tiger men.

Stella Affognon earned All-SCAC honors by finishing third in the shot put for the second straight year, while also finishing seventh in the hammer throw. Hall was fifth in the men's shot put competition.
