#15 Trinity Men's Tennis Defeats #29 UT-Tyler

Claremont, California - The 15th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team defeated 29th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler 5-3 in the second round of the NCAA Championships.

 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

The Patriots took the first point of the match, as the Tiger doubles team of Tilden Oliver and Lars Wiik fell 8-2 at line three. Wilson Hamilton and Jace Akagi-Okuma then tied things up with a strong 9-7 victory at line two, but Wilson Lambeth and Jordan Pitts fell 9-7 in their match to give UT-Tyler a 2-1 advantage going into singles. 

Akagi-Okuma earned a quick 6-1, 6-4 win at line four to tie the match for the second time, and Lambeth followed suit with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at line three to give the Tigers their first lead of the day. Wiik unfortunately had to retire at line four, but Pitts was able to pull out a 6-2, 7-5 match at line two to make it a 4-3 match.

Oliver held on for a 6-2, 7-5 win of his own at line five to clinch the match for the Tigers and propel them into the third round of the NCAA Championships. Hamilton's match at line one was left unfinished in the third set.

The Tigers will take on host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) College Saturday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. (PDT).
