San Antonio - The league's head coaches have selected the Trinity women's soccer team to win its 10th consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship.
The Tigers won the 2017 SCAC crown with a 1-0 victory over Texas Lutheran University, marking the 22nd time Trinity captured the conference top position. Trinity blanked the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, but was edged 3-2 by Hardin-Simmons (TX) University in the second. The Tigers completed the season with a 19-2-0 overall record and a 12-0-0 mark in the SCAC.
Led by third-year Head Coach Dylan Harrison, the Tigers are ranked 12th nationally in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Preseason Poll. The 2018 campaign opens with four straight home games, starting August 31 with Pacific Lutheran (WA) University and the University of Puget Sound (WA) on September 2. Fourth-ranked Hardin-Simmons University come to campus for a rematch September 7, and the Tigers take on the University of Texas-Tyler on September 9.
Coach Harrison was elected the SCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year last season. Senior midfielder Chelsea Cole was tabbed as the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year. Cole led the Tigers and the conference with 19 goals and six game-winners, earning All-SCAC First Team honors. Sophomore defender Lilah Bevins was named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year during her first season of competition, as well as making the SCAC All-Tournament Team.
Junior defender Kristen Canepa was an All-SCAC First Team selection and was the SCAC Tournament Defensive Most Valuable Player. Senior forward Halleanne Dure earned a slot on the All-SCAC Second Team, as did senior defender Madee Gallagher, an All-Tournament honoree.
Trinity was ranked first in the nation in scoring offense, firing in 5.14 goals per game, and was second with 108 total goals. The taut Tiger defense permitted only six goals all season and registered 17 shutout victories.
