Box Score 2 San Antonio - Trinity's Tilden Oliver has been tabbed as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Wilson Hamilton and Christian Settles were named the SCAC Doubles Team of the Week for the second occasion.
The Tiger players made important contributions last week in 17th-ranked Trinity's matches at the San Antonio Country Club. Trinity edged Laredo (TX) College 4-3 and then lost 7-0 to the University of the Incarnate Word (TX). Laredo is ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association junior college poll, while Incarnate Word is a member of the NCAA Division I.
Oliver won a hard-fought three-set victory at #6 singles, which gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead over Laredo College. The dual match was close, but the Tigers never trailed for the rest of the matchup. This season, Oliver stands at 4-6 in singles and is 3-1 against NCAA Division III opponents.
Hamilton and Settles went undefeated in the two matches as a doubles team. The Tiger tandem first bested the Laredo duo 7-6 on the second line to sweep the doubles events. Later, Hamilton and Settles posted Trinity's only win against Incarnate Word, taking #2 doubles by a score of 7-6. This season, the two Tigers are sporting a 6-0 record.
Trinity stands at 5-5 on the season and is 4-0 against the Division III opposition.
Over Trinity's Spring Break, the Tigers will go on the road to take on five DIII teams and one from Division II. First up is Emory (GA) University, ranked fourth in Division III on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.
