Box Score 2 Claremont, California - The #11 Trinity men's tennis team defeated #13 Pomona-Pitzer (CA) Colleges 5-4 Saturday in a battle of nationally and regionally ranked NCAA Division III squads.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches.
Jordan Pitts and Wilson Lambeth, ranked #2 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region, took the top doubles line over the seventh-ranked Pomona-Pitzer duo.
Artur Zigman and Cameron Krimbill won the second line, while Wilson Hamilton and Christian Settles were victorious in the third matchup.
The Sagehens won #6 singles for their first point of the match, as Tilden Oliver fell in straight sets.
Lambeth, ranked 12th in the West Region, pulled out a huge win as he defeated the second-ranked player from Pomona-Pitzer on the top line as the Tigers took a 4-1 lead.
The Tigers then dropped three straight singles matches to tie things up at four all.
The match fell at the hand of Krimbell as line three. He won a first-set tiebreaker and then lost the second set against the 17th-ranked player in the Region. Krimbell fought back from a 1-5 deficit and match point to win the third set 7-5 and clinch the dual match for the Tigers.
NOTABLES
Trinity, ranked second in the West Region, improved its overall record to 12-9. The Tigers stand at 11-3 against Division III opponents.
Pomona-Pitzer, #3 in the West Region, dropped to 8-10 after the loss.
Wilson Lambeth won his ninth straight singles match and upped his record to 12-6.
Lambeth and Jordan Pitts captured their sixth consecutive doubles match and are sporting a 15-3 record.
Wilson Hamilton and Christian Settles stand at 9-3 as a duo, while Krimbill and Artur Zigman are 7-5.
