Box Score San Antonio – Trinity's men's and women's track & field teams feature four individuals who have qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
There are two Tiger men and two Tiger women who have qualified for nationals. Seniors Abigail Bannon-Schneebeck and Molly McCullough will represent the women's team, while senior Blair Walker and first-year Sean Majors made the cut on the men's team.
The Championship event will be held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, and is hosted by the University of Mount Union (OH) and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. The meet takes place Thursday, May 23, through Saturday, May 25.
McCullough is the most experienced competitor of the bunch, having qualified for nationals for the third consecutive season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She finished 15th at the NCAA Championships in 2017, then just missed All-American honors with her ninth-place finish in 2018. McCullough enters this year's event seeded seventh with a time of 10:48.03 that she earned at the Mt. Sac Relays last month. The prelims will be on Thursday, May 23, at 5:25 p.m. with the finals set for Saturday, May 25, at 11:30 a.m.
In addition to her success at the Outdoor Track & Field Championships, McCullough competed in three consecutive NCAA Cross Country Championships from 2016-18, earning back-to-back All-America recognition the last two years. She is just the third All-American in Trinity cross country history and the only one to earn the honor more than once.
Walker will compete at the NCAA Championships for the second straight season after also being part of the Tiger 4x100-meter relay team that finished 16th at nationals in 2018. Walker will be on his own this year, earning the 11th seed for the 400-meter run with a school-record time of 47.95 seconds at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships late last month. He will race on Friday, May 24, competing in the prelims at 3:15 p.m.
Bannon-Schneebeck earned her qualifying time of 1:02.33 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Trinity Open on March 2, which held up as the 17th seed for nationals. She earned a trip to nationals for the first time in her career and will begin competition in the prelims on Thursday, May 23, at 4:25 p.m.
Majors earned his season-best mark of 7.17 meters on the final day of qualification at the Gregory Invitational just last week, sending him to nationals as the 20th seed in the men's long jump. Majors will be the first to compete among the four Trinity qualifiers, beginning Thursday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m.
Trinity is led by Head Coach Marcus Whitehead, who is finishing his seventh year in charge of the Tiger track & field program. Coach Whitehead has now had 17 NCAA qualifiers in his seven seasons, including four student-athletes who have earned six All-America honors during his tenure.
