Box Score 2 Georgetown, Texas - Trinity men's tennis players Jordan Pitts and Cameron Krimbill advanced to Sunday's A Singles Semifinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Region Championships.
HIGHLIGHTS
The top-seeded Pitts outfought Haydn Steffes of the University of Texas at Dallas 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16 Saturday at Southwestern University. He then beat fifth-seeded Alex Joseph of Southwestern 6-3, 6-7 (5), 4-0 (retired) in the quarterfinals.
Pitts will take on fourth-seeded Angelo Yasuro Ito Tost of the University of the Ozarks (AR) in the semifinals. Last year, Pitts advanced to the A Singles championship match.
Krimbill beat two Tiger teammates on the road to the semifinals. He first bested Brett Finan 6-4, 6-1, and then scored a 6-3, 6-2 decision over ninth-seeded Wilson Hamilton in the quarters.
Next up for Krimbill in the semifinals is #2 Alexis Dimanche of Southwestern.
Top doubles seeds Pitts and Krimbill were edged 6-8 in the semifinals by Southwestern's Hunter Bajoit and Hemanshu Rambojun.
Pitts and former Tiger player Wilson Lambeth captured the 2018 doubles title.
Ninth-seeded Hao Nguyen lost 6-7 (4), 1-3 (retired) to Tost in the A Singles round of 16.
Lars Wiik was eliminated in the round of 16 by ninth-seeded John Herr of East Texas Baptist University 7-6 (4), 0-6, 3-10.
Christian Settles advanced to the A Singles Consolation final. Settles first beat Alejandro Omana of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) 6-4, 6-0, and then was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Holt Fields of Hardin-Simmons (TX) University.
Settles gained a spot in the finals by a withdrawal from Mythreyan Ganesh of UT-Dallas. The Tiger player will meet either Josh Lopez of Hardin-Simmons or Joseph Salinas of East Texas Baptist in the final.
The A Singles and Doubles champions qualify for the ITA Cup, to be held October 17-20 at Rome, Georgia.

The A Singles semifinals are set for 9:00 a.m. Sunday, and the championship will follow. The time for the A Singles Consolation final will be determined.
