SAN ANTONIO - The 2021 Spring Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Champions hosted Southwestern University in a dual meet to open up the winter season. The Tigers fought to a commanding 202-59 win over the Pirates.
Konstantine Partalas (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan)and Garrett Guillet were the only two men to compete in the one and three-meter dive this afternoon. Ko. Partalas led the two in the one-meter dive with a score of 305.55 while Guilet scored 158.40. Partalas also scored a 230.00 on the three-meter dive to bring his point total to 18 on the day.
Matt Lanzara (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo), Kendal Southwell (Rio Rancho, N.M. / Calvert Online Academy), Andrew Crosley (San Antonio, Texas / Alamo Heights) and Nolan Anthony (Missouri City, Texas / Missouri City) started the men off by sprinting to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.13. The second quartet of Daniel Sarman (Austin, Texas / Vandergrift), Wesley Wasserburger (Austin, Texas / James Bowie), Shamzi Alkaff (Ft. Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) and Noah Kelly (Frisco, Texas / Hebron) weren't far behind with a time of 1:38.63.
Nathaniel Early (Austin, Texas / Westwood) left his competition in the dust by swimming to a personal best 1:41.79 in the 200-yard freestyle. That blazing time was better than the time he posted to win the same event in the SCAC Championships. Michael Kohl (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) finished in second in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.97.
Sarman and Kelly took the top two spots in the 50-yard backstroke. Sarman sprinted out to a finish of 24.97. Southwell and Spencer Steward (Kearney, Mo. / Kearney) occupied the first two spots in the 50-yard breaststroke with final times of 27.39 and 28.18. John Fontenot (Austin, Texas / St. Andrew's) took first in the 100-yard butterfly while Ben Adams (Lubbock, Texas / Monterey) placed third. Fontenot raced to a time of 52.89 while Adams touched the wall with a time of 55.36.
Nolan placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.02 while Sarman and a Southwestern swimmer touched the wall at 22.05 at an all out sprint. Early and Caleb Manifold (Helotes, Texas / Homeschool) were the first two to touch the wall in the 100-yard freestyle. The two finished with times of 48.36 and 49:08.
Lanzara and Fontenot finished the 100-yard backstroke with times of 54.22 and 55.66 which was fast enough for a first and second-place finish. Southwell won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.33. Omar Shahatit took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.46, which was a few seconds off first place. Kohl, Fontenot and Adams occupied the top-three spots in the 50-yard butterfly.
Early, Kelly, Kohl and Anthony took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay while Fontenot, Crosley, Alkaff and Manifold took second to send the Tigers out on top in the final event of the afternoon.
