Trinity Trio Takes SCAC Swimming & Diving Honors

Lawrenceville, Ga. – Trinity University's men's and women's swimming & diving teams took three out of the four major awards to close out the 2020-21 season, as announced by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday.

The honors were bestowed based on exclusive voting by SCAC head coaches. The conference releases can be found below. Significant portions of this story are taken from there.

SCAC Men's Release     SCAC Women's Release

Junior Katarina Partalas (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) was named the SCAC Women's Diver of the Year, while senior Anthony Liva (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Prospect) was the SCAC Men's Diver of the Year. First-year Michael Kohl (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) was the SCAC Men's Swimmer of the Year.

Partalas won both the 1-meter and 3-meter board competitions at the SCAC Championships last month, securing SCAC Diver of the Meet honors in the process. She won the 1-meter event for the second straight year, and she holds two of the top five scores in SCAC Championship history on the low board. Partalas, who earned All-America honors after qualifying for the NCAA Championships last year, is the 16th consecutive Trinity women's diver to take this award.

Liva becomes the eighth diver in SCAC history to win multiple Diver of the Year honors, after winning the award for the second straight year. Liva won the 3-meter board in this year's event, finishing as runner-up to his teammate in the 1-meter competition, and securing back-to-back SCAC Diver of the Meet awards. This marks the sixth straight season that a Trinity diver has won the honor.

Kohl is just the second first-year in SCAC history to earn SCAC Swimmer of the Meet honors, winning all three of his events at the 2021 SCAC Championships. His time in the 100 backstroke was the fourth fastest in SCAC Championships meet history. Kohl also took part in each of Trinity's five winning relay teams that also set pool records in each event.

Trinity also swept both the men's and women's Coaching Staff of the Year awards. The Tigers were led by Head Coach Scott Trompeter, Diving Coach Stan Randall, and assistant coaches John Ryan and Kimberly Jones. This season marks the third men's honor and the fourth straight women's honor since Coach Trompeter took over the program prior to the 2017-18 season.
