Box Score San Antonio – Trinity's men's and women's track & field teams finished strong at the second day of the UIW Invitational on Saturday.
Kierra Francois (Rosharon, Texas / Arlington) and Sean Majors (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) made the biggest splash by moving up the top 10 list in Tiger track & field history.
Francois backed up her record-breaking performance in yesterday's hammer throw with a personal-best in the discus on Saturday. She threw 38.80 meters in the event, which moves her from seventh to fourth all-time at Trinity.
Majors, who broke the school's long jump record to start the season, dropped his career-best time in the 400-meter dash to 48.84 seconds. He is now third on the all-time list and is less than a second away from another Tiger record.
Field Highlights
In addition to Francois' success in the discus, two other teammates achieved new personal bests in the event. Maggie Nava (San Antonio, Texas / Holy Cross) threw 33.95 meters for a new individual record, while Heath Schake (Wimberley, Texas / Wimberley) also broke his personal record. Robert Slaybaugh (Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) missed his personal best, but he did throw 43.67 meters for a new season-high in the discus.
Jacob Winchester (Houston, Texas / Katy Taylor) topped 51 meters to finish third in the javelin, but it was three other men's throwers who reached new heights. David Buss (Frisco, Texas / Liberty) finished fourth behind Winchester with a throw of 47.71 meters, while Stephen Ford (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) was fifth with his mark of 45.73 meters. Ian Blount (Buda, Texas / Hays) also set a new personal record in the event, as did Francois on the women's side.
Elijah Wade (Waco, Texas / Vanguard) marked 13.71 meters for a new personal best in the men's triple jump, while Selina Noe (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) and Jordyn White (St. Louis, Mo. / Lutheran North) also jumped well in the women's competition. Neither reached a new personal best, but both had season-long jumps in the event.
Track Highlights
Majors wasn't the only Tiger to have success in the 400 today, as Aliya Jackson (Houston, Texas / Shadow Creek) and Merriam Scafide (Houston, Texas / Incarnate Word Academy) both set new personal records in the women's race. Seve Rodriguez (Waimea, Hawaii / La Canada) missed out on a personal best, but still had his best time of the 2021 season.
Jordyn White (St. Louis, Mo. / Lutheran North) missed her PR in the 100-meter hurdles by just 0.14 seconds with a season-best time of 15.67 seconds, while Rylie Edwards (Frisco, Texas / Frisco) and Benjamin Witt (Midland, Texas / Trinity) both achieved their best times of the year in the event.
Noe also had her best time of the year in the 100-meter dash, while Noah Fulcomer (Rockford, Ill. / Rockford Christian) set a new personal record in the men's race.
Six different Tiger men's runners had new personal records in the 800-meter run, while Madison Habeck (Lake Jackson, Texas / Clute Brazoswood) and Ardi Saunders (Coppell, Texas / New Tech) just missed new personal-bests by 0.25 seconds and 0.56 seconds, respectively. Jacob Ontiveros (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) led the pack of men with new individual records, followed by Caden Erickson (Holdrege, Neb. / Holdrege), Ben Abikhaled (Austin, Texas / Saint Stephen's Episcopal), Joey Burrhus (Fulshear, Texas / Fulshear), Nathan Brown (Houston, Texas / Academy of Classical Christian Studies), and Melvin Cruz (Houston, Texas / Awty International School). Aaron Garcia (Austin, Texas / St. Andrew's) also missed a new PR by just 0.21 seconds.

Both of Trinity's teams will compete at the Cactus Cup Friday-Saturday, April 16-17, in Kingsville, Texas. The meet is hosted by Texas A&M University-Kingsville at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium.
