Women's Track and Field Earn Postseason SCAC Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.-  The Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference (SCAC) announced the Track and Field Athletes and Staff of the Year for Women's Track and Field following the 2021 Outdoor season. The Tigers collected multiple postseason awards on the women's side. 

Sophomore Jordyn White (St. Louis, Mo. / Lutheran North) represented the Trinity University track and field program by competing in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

White was awarded Women's Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) along with a ton of other accolades to cap off an amazing sophomore season. The sophomore placed eighth at the NCAA Championships by jumping 5.52m and earned All-American honors. White also became the first Division III Women's All-American long jumper in Trinity University history.

The long-jumper also broke a school record while trying to qualify for the NCAA Championship. The sophomore leaped into first place in the history books with a jump of 5.92m at the North Central College (IL) Gregory Final Qualifier on May 20th. White was also tabbed as the South Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year. 

First-year Ellie Catron (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands Christian) was tabbed Women's Co-Newcomer of the Year by the SCAC after an impressive first season. The long-distance runner won the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 11:44.96 to capture a SCAC title on day one of the SCAC Chammpionships on April 24th. 

The rookie raced to a personal-best of 11:15.49 in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Dr. Keeler Invite on May 14th. That time was strong enough for a sixth-place finish. Catron was also awarded South All-Region honors from the USTFCCCA.

The staff of  head-coach Marcus Whitehead and assistant coaches Thomas Dimitri, Emily Daum, Todd Wildman, Lauren Loeffler, Corey Wildman, Kelsey Oelze, Brianna Ratliff and Jen Whitehead have been voted by their peers as the SCAC Staff of the Year for Men and Women's Track and Field.
