13 Men's Track and Field Members Honored on SCAC 30th Anniversary Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- The Trinity University track and field team saw 13 members that competed over the the past 15 years make the Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference 30th anniversary team. 

The Tigers led the way with 13 members of the men's team being selected by current coaches, administrators and/or conference office personnel. Anthony Hicks, Zach Brush, Ian Plantz, Chass Armstrong, Austin Brown, Taylor Piske, Cody Hall, Todd Wildman, and Michael Erickson selected for track events while Hall, Wildman, Chris Baer, Justin Campbell, Matt Love, and George Warren were selected for field events. 

Anthony Hicks made the team after a very successful career in the  100m dash. The speedster raced to three SCAC Championships. Hicks won the conference title in 2005, 2006, and 2007 becoming one of five men to win the event three or more times. 

Zach Brush was honored after racing to a first place finish in the 800m race from 2008 to 2011. The speedster was not only a two-time All-American but he still holds three of the top five times in SCAC history. Brush raced to a 1:53.50 in 2011 for the best time in conference history and also won Track Athlete of the Year. 

Ian Plantz also earned the nod in the 800m race after earning All-SCAC in all four of the years he competed. Plantz was able to win the conference title in the 800m in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Plantz is also in the elite group of three student-athletes that were able to win all conference during all four of the years he competed. 

Chass Armstrong is one of only 11 men in the conference to earn four gold medals in an event. Armstrong won the  1500m race from 2007-10. The four-time gold medal winner ran what is still the second (3:54.71) and (third 3:55.46) best times in SCAC Championship history. Austin Brown also joins Armstrong on the 1500m team after winning the event in 2015 and 2016. 

Taylor Piske earned the nod after winning both the 5,000m and the 10,000m races. Piske won the 5,000m race in 2014, 2015, and 2016 at the SCAC Championships. The long-distance runner also earned SCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2013. Piske is one of only two SCAC student-athletes to win the 5,000m race three straight years. 

Cody Hall earns this honor after a remarkable career where he medaled in the 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, and the long-jump. Hall is also just one of three student-athletes in the SCAC that earned Athlete of the Meet honors three or more times of their career. 

Todd Wildman was recognized in the 110m hurdles and the long-jump. In 2009, Wildman won Athlete of the Year after winning gold in the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. Wildman also earned All-American honors in the 110m hurdles and in the long jump. Wildman is one of two Tigers that won All-American long-jump honors at the NCAA National Championships. 

Michael Erickson joined the team after an impressive career where he won six total SCAC titles. Erickson was recognized on this team for winning the 3,000m steeplechase two times during his career. The do-it-all-Tiger is just one of five student-athletes in the SCAC to win multiple 3,000 steeplechase events. 

Chris Baer earned the nod in javelin after winning back-to-back SCAC Championships in 2008 and 2009. Baer also went on to win All-American accolades both years after finishing top five in the NCAA National Championships. The Tiger tossed a 198'8 at the conference championship in 2009, which still stands as the best throw in SCAC and Trinity history. 

Justin Campbell made the team after a phenomenal career in discus. Campbell won the SCAC Championship in 2009, 2010, and 2013 where he was also named Field Athlete of the Year. The Discus hurler also started off his career by placing third in the NCAA National Championships and bringing home All-American honors. Matt Love also dominated the discus event by collecting gold in 2015, 2017, and 2018. Love won Field Athlete of the Year honors in 2017 and 2018. He finished off his career with an eighth place-finish in the NCAA National Championships which earned him All-American accolades. 

George Warren dominated in the high-jump during his time as a Tiger. Warren won All-SCAC four times and won his event in 2011, 2013, and 2014. 

The 2021 men's track and field team dominated the SCAC Championships by winning almost every event to grab their first conference championship since 2016. The complete list of honorees along with the significant portions of this story can be found in the SCAC Full Release.
