SAN ANTONIO - No. 6 Trinity University Men's Tennis continued its season-opening dominance Sunday afternoon as it notched an 8-1 tally over in-region foe No. 37 Hardin-Simmons University at the Newman Tennis Center.
The Tigers (4-1) continued to ride the play of its reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly honorees as senior Christian Settles (Claremont, Calif. / Claremont) and junior Hao Nguyen (Sugar Land, Texas / Strake Jesuit) got the momentum started in their 8-4 line-one doubles victory, followed by 6-2, 6-2 outputs for each of the duo in singles action. Settles's line-three victory represented the fifth team point which clinched the match.
Senior Cameron Krimbill (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) checked in immediately after Settles with another strong performance from the top line, 6-1, 6-2, combining with Nguyen as undefeated against NCAA III adversaries in the first and second lines of individual play, respectively, to start the season.
Senior Wilson Hamilton (Austin, Texas / ATA Prep) came away from Sunday's action with the lone set-shutout of the afternoon, finishing off his fourth-line opponent with a 6-0 second-set tally.
Junior Alessio Azzalini (Rome, Italy / Istituto Visconti) notched his fourth victory in doubles play to remain undefeated in the opening session of match play thus far, all four which came with different partners. Sunday's hard-fought 8-7 (7-5) second-line victory came with junior Cameron Goldstein (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal) for his first doubles victory of the season.
Trinity Men's Tennis will square off with the best of the best next week as the Tigers travel to Cleveland, Ohio for the 2022 ITA Indoor National Championship. Trinity will enter the eight-team bracket as the fourth seed to battle fifth-seed No. 7 Brandeis University (MA) on Friday, February 25 at 1 p.m. ET, Noon CT.
The 2022 SCAC schedule opens on the road for the Tigers on Sunday, March 6 at Colorado College.
