Tiger Track & Field Competes at Saint's Last Chance Meet

SAN ANTONIO – Members of the Trinity men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Saint's Last Chance Meet, hosted by Our Lady of the Lake University on Friday night.

Sean Majors (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) highlighted the meet by breaking his own Tiger record in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 7.52 meters to launch past his previous best by 0.05 meters. That distance moves him up to a tie for fourth in Division III this season and just 0.03 meters from the top mark of the year.

Majors also teamed up with Ethan Gilmore (Houston, Texas / Lamar), Josue Parra (Niles, Ill. / Maine East), and Justin Johnson (Houston, Texas / Manvel) for the 4x400 meter relay, finishing second with a time of 3:19.68. The quartet was just over two seconds from their top time this season, which has them ranked #32 in NCAA III.

Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) and Joy Areola (Tomball, Texas / Rosehill Christian) both eclipsed 11 meters in the triple jump, and Stafford was second with a mark of 11.18 meters. That is her second-best jump of the season, which is her first with the Trinity track & field team. Areola has gone beyond 11 meters five times this season – including her rookie season-best jump of 11.69 meters that has her ranked 33rd in the nation.

Areola also notched a fifth-place finish with a long jump of 5.28 meters, while teammate Jordyn White (St. Louis, Mo. / Lutheran North) was sixth with a jump of 5.19 meters. White's 5.57-meter leap last month has her in the top 50 nationally this season.

Tanner Lacy (Oak Ridge North, Texas / Oak Ridge) and Noah Ledat (Richardson, Texas / Richardson) cleared the bar in second and third place, respectively, in the pole vault. Lacy was unable to move up the national list with a height of 4.41 meters on Friday, remaining at #41 in NCAA III this season.

Jalen Leonce (Allen, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) and Drew Bullinger (Ft. Worth, Texas / Paschal) were both top five in the men's 110-meter hurdles on Friday. Bullinger missed a personal record by just 0.03 seconds with a time of 15.38. Leonce set a new PR by the same narrow margin, finishing in a time of 15.28 seconds to move up to sixth all-time at Trinity.

Moises Lopez Guarnero (Mexico City, Mexico / TMI Episcopal) set a new personal record in the 100-meter dash and had his second-fastest career time in the 200-meter event as well. BJ Stewart (Shreveport, La. / Woodlawn) raced to the finish line of the 100 in a time of 10.83 seconds to finish fourth.

Casey Hampton (Houston, Texas / Westbury Christian) reached 6.90 meters in the long jump – his fifth time to go that distance or better this season – though he remains 25th on the national list.

Three distance runners compete on Saturday at the APU Last Chance Meet, hosted by Azusa Pacific University in California. Select Tiger team members will also compete at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Meet next week in Rock Island, Ill. All are attempting to better their times and distances to qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 26-28 in Geneva, Ohio.
