HOUSTON – The Tiger men's and women's track & field teams had several distance runners compete at the Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice University on Friday, setting several new personal records. There were 23 different Trinity runners at tonight's meet, racing in both the 1500-meter run and the 5000-meter run.
Sophomore
Will Salony (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) led the men's team in the 5K, finishing 10th with a time of 15:07.01 for the Tigers. It marks the second fastest time of his career and the second fastest time for a Trinity runner since the 2016 season. Junior
Diego Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Monte Vista North) was 14th with a personal-best time of 15:20.76 that also moves him up to eighth in school history. Senior
Ben Whittemore (Georgetown, Texas / Georgetown) and sophomore
Eli Karg (Friendswood, Texas / Friendswood) also finished in the top 25 in the race. The lone women's competitor in the women's 5K was senior
Elaine Kaster (Lewisville, Texas / Founders Classical Academy), who earned 11th place overall with her time of 18:43.56.
The 1500 was a much busier race for the Tigers, featuring a total of 15 runners that included six women and four men that finished in the top 25 on Friday. Six of Trinity's men's runners had new personal records in the race, while three first-year women also achieved that honor.
Junior
Madison Habeck (Lake Jackson, Texas / Clute Brazoswood) led the women's team with her time of 4:56.59 that was good for 13th place tonight and is the top time this season in the 1500 for the Tigers. First-year
Emily Gnecco (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) was literally right behind Habeck in 14th place, finishing in 4:57.00. Senior
Paige Tangney (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier Township) and first-year
Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) were both in the top 20 with their times of 4:58.66 and 4:59.48, respectively. First-year
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) and junior
Ellie Catron (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands Christian) rounded out the top 25 finishers for the Tigers.
On the men's side, sophomore
Ryan Tresaugue (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands) led the way for Trinity with his 12th-place finish in a time of 4:02.18. First-year
Sebastian Langer (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) was right on his teammate's heels in 14th with a time of 4:02.39, while junior
Ryan Rager-Aguiar (Spring Hill, Tenn. / Independence) finished in 4:04.90 for 19th place. Sophomore
Marco Jonsson (Sugar Land, Texas / Dulles) also raced his way into the top 25 with his time of 4:06.06 and all four Tigers set new personal-best times.
