SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Tiger men's and women's track & field teams finished off the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, setting several new personal records.
Today's events capped a three-day meet hosted by Texas State University, with Trinity competing on each of those days. The Tigers were in nine different events today – eight races and one field event.
The women's 4x400-meter relay capped the meet by finishing seventh with a time of 4:00.91 that is the sixth-best in school history. The team of
CC Gray (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep),
Taylor Kotfas (Blanco, Texas / Blanco),
Aliya Jackson (Houston, Texas / Shadow Creek), and
Hayley Huck (Prosper, Texas / Prosper) posted Trinity's best time since 2016 in the final event of the meet.
The 3000-meter steeplechase had the most Trinity personal records, led by
Diego Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Monte Vista North). He finished fourth in the men's race to tie for the highest finish of any of the Tiger competitors today. Flores ran the steeple in 9:28.27 to beat his previous career-best by nearly 10 seconds and move up to third in school history. Four other runners broke personal records in the event, including
Maia Dykstra (Clarkston, W. Va. / Asotin) for the Trinity women. Also setting new personal bests were
Melvin Cruz (Houston, Texas / Awty International School),
Ash Meckel (Austin, Texas / The Griffin School), and
Landon Vaughan (Grapevine, Texas / Colleyville Heritage).
Ellie Catron (The Woodlands, The Woodlands Christian Academy) led the women's team with an eighth-place finish.
Matching the finish by Flores was
Will Salony (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) and his fourth-place finish in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.07.
Emily Gnecco (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) was the top women's finisher with a time of 2:23.38 for a new personal record. Her time put her 14th in the race, but also leaves her less than a second from moving into the top 10 in school history.
In the 1500-meter run,
Paige Tangney (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier Township) led a pair of top-10 performances for Trinity's women. Tangney was sixth with a time of 4:58.36, while
Elizabeth McLauchlin (Bellaire, Texas / Episcopal) was eighth with a new personal-best time of 5:04.44.
Another section of the men's and women's 1500 will follow with senior leading a group of two first-year women's teammates and two sophomore men's runners. and
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) will start with Tantney at 1:05 p.m. The sophomore duo of
Ryan Tresaugue (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) and
William Welden (Atlanta, Ga. / Holy Innocents) will start at 1:25 p.m.

Trinity will have a quick turnaround this week due to the Easter holiday next weekend. The Tigers will compete at the David Noble Relays, hosted by Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. The three-day meet begins on Wednesday, April 5, and runs through Friday, April 7.
